Trading

Part of what makes fantasy football fun and exciting is are the trades and transactions. Making that sweet waiver wire pick up and then that guy goes off the next weekend - nothing better. Maybe Carson Palmer's elbow blows out (happened to me last year) and you need something better than Tavaris Jackson (late of the Vikings). Pulling off that critical trade is as satisfying as a cold beer on a hot day tailgating at the stadium. What makes trading good? Take a look.

1) Don't be an idiot. Make sure you are making your team better. Don't trade Tomlinson for some Williams, whether named Ricky or Roy or Pat (yeah, I know, Pat Williams is a DT, but I couldn't think of another Williams off the top of my head... sue me!).

2) Know your enemy. Know who you are trading with and what their hot buttons are. If they are a Dallas homer, then dangle a Cowboy in the trade. Maybe he is a rabid Favre fan (like me) and adding him into the mix gets it done. Whatever the case, the better you know, the more successful the trade.

3) Don't make stupid trade offeres. So, you are going to offer Kyle Orton for Peyton Manning? Or Thomas Jones for Matt Forte? Would you do it? See point #1. Don't be an idiot. Take a look at the other team and ask yourself if you would make the deal if you were him. If you wouldn't, do you think they will?

4) Target. If you want Ryan Grant on your team and didn't draft him, then go get him. Find out what the other side wants or needs and make an offer. Sometimes, you have to give a little to get a little. As they say in the mob, make them an offer they can't refuse... and NO, don't go around breaking people's legs to get your trade done!

Sample: Would you do this deal? Trade Brandon Jacobs and Kyle Orton for Ryan Grant and Matt Schaub. You might say no way automatically because of the quarterback differential, but you have to weigh in the Brady factor. The owner with Grant and Schaub already has Tom Brady, thus Schaub's value goes down a bit. Let me know your thoughts on this one... thinking of making this deal.
