Almost every fantasy web site these days is putting up their "predications" each week. But let's examine this past weekend's performance...
Who ever says they "predicted" Drew Brees would go off for 350+ and 6 TDs is a liar. Sure, he was forecast to do well, but not transcend the fantasy.
What were the predictions for Steve Smith and Steve Smith... you know, the other Steve Smith. Well, Steve Smith flopped right along with his battery mate, Jake Delhomme. But the other Steve Smith, well, he posted respectable numbers even though most people think of him as not worthy.
The Philadelphia defense used the demise of the afore mentioned Jake Delhomme to score mad fantasy points. We will see if that trend continues.
Who would think guys named John and Zach would lead the TE scoring and guys named Antonio and Tony would follow behind?
Who would have thought Jay Culter would throw almost as many passes to the Green Bay Packers as he did to his own guys?
Ok, the point of all this drivel is simple. WHO THE HELL KNOWS? Whoever says they know who is going to go off and who is going to flop is either a cold blooded liar or an idiot. But, we all love to predict shit. So, I have scoured the predictors and come up with a sorta list, if you will. Let's call it, the Who I Like List... and those who might suck.
- Drew Brees will have a good day, although NOT 6 TDs, but he has a shot at half that.. and say, 275+ yards.
- Which leads us to the Philadelphia defense, who, while not as good as the MONSTER they were last week, will prove to be less than perfect this week.
- After a lackluster performance, only saved to mediocrity by a late TD pass, Aaron Rodgers will fare much better against the Bengals this week.
- Jeremy Shockey will come back to earth and will not catch any of Drew's TD passes, leaving the 4 for 36 he had last week, leaving his owners moaning.
- Brian Westbrook is going to have a field day against the New Orleans D, even with the ends not getting suspended.
- While I will be starting Matt Forte this weekend, but don't count on him to light up the world. He faces another difficult and probably greater test in Pittsburgh this week.
- Ok, for the TEs, I would again start John Carlson, but I will move away from Zach Miller, but Tony Gonzales will have another nice day.
- Eddie Royal AND Brandon Marshall will have good days against a weak Browns defense.
- I dont buy Nate Burleson as more than occasionally relevant fantasy WR, and San Fran will shut him down.
- Jason Cambell is listed near the top of one listing I looked at, and even though he is facing the hapless Lambs, he won't knock your doors off.
- Now, Clinton Portis is another story and is good for 2 scores and 80+
- Bench Frank Gore this week, I think the Seattle Defense is for real.
- and for the first and last time, I will say that predicting kickers is like herding cats.
Now, I don't know if any of this crap will come true, neither does anyone else (except for the last one). Just educated guesses. Flip a coin eh?
