Here are my quick observations, rants, stew and syrup from Sunday's action.
1) Ok, eating crow here, but Jeremy Shockey surprised me today. And while he had good fantasy numbers, with 2 TDs, he only had 4 receptions for 31 yards. Perhaps he will be a favored Brees red zone target, but I am still not completely convinced.
2) Drew Brees is a machine. What a stat line? 358... 6 TDs!!!!! Yikes!
3) Looks like my feeling on Matt Hasslebeck could be right. It was the hapless Rams, but nearly 300 yards and 3 TDs is a nice start to the season.
4) Are the Rams really that bad? Nothing really fantasy relevant from the entire team.
5) Did the value of Brandon Jacobs take a hit today? Ahmad Bradshaw out gained him.
6) Where the heck has Antwan Randle El been? Nice day for him with 97 on 7 catches.
7) Thomas Jones completely surprised me today, but I shouldn't have been. Rookie QB (Nice start of Sanchez by the way), defensive minded coach... adds up to running the ball. The Jets did. Jones did.
8) I am really happy for Cadillac Williams. 100 yards on only 13 touches, plus a TD. Wish I had drafted him.
9) Jake Delhomme needs to take better care of the ball. What? like 10 turn overs in his last two games including the disaster in the playoffs last year?
10) The Roy Williams era in Dallas has begun. TO who? Ok, only 3 receptions, but a good showing, plus lots of help from his comrades
11) Nice start to the year for Cedric Benson, with 76 and a TD rushing and 4 receptions for 32 yards. Those who picked him up in the 9th round or so might have gotten a steal.
12) Joe Flacco was a man on my watch list going into the draft season. Looks like I might have been right. Good start, and he was drafted after many other QBs this year.
13) Any doubts that Reggie Wayne and Maurice Jones-Drew are elite players? Not after the Colt vs Jaguars.
14) Tony Gonzales looks as good as ever in the Falcons system and seems Matt Ryan knows where he is on the field too.
15) AP is awesome. Enough said.
16) Jamal Lewis showed very well against the tough Minnesota defense, with 100+ total yards. Ok, how many folks has Lewis on their "Bench 'em" list.
17) I think I might have made a mistake in not getting Tim Hightower, instead picking Beanie Wells. Guess the ESPN depth chart list was incorrect listing Wells 1st. And who knew about his receiving skills. 12 for 121? Ridiculous!
18) I know it is just one half of football, but folks might have to rethink Jay Cutler as even a decent fantasy football option... and it doesn't look like Culter is the issue from my eye... the receivers are an issue. Maybe Chicago should trade with Denver to get Brandon Marshall? =)
