Wednesday Tidbits

I was reading a good article on SI.com (you can find it here) by Jeff Ritter. He focused on some players who have easy or hard roads ahead in the next four weeks. It is interesting analysis. Here are who he thought has an easy vs hard road and against who.

Easy:
Brandon Jacobs - @KC, OAK, @NO, ARI
Mark Sanchez - @NO, @MIA, BUF, @OAK
Hines Ward - SD, @DET, CLE, MIN
Greg Jennings - @MIN, BYE, DET, @CLE

I am on board for both Jacobs and Jennings, but from a fantasy perspective, Mark Sanchez is not quite ready for prime time... but he is getting there. And Hines Ward does have a nice schedule, yet Santonio Holmes has stolen his thunder this year in my opinion and he doesn't look to be giving it back.

Hard:
Adrian Peterson - GB, @STL, BAL, @PIT
Matt Ryan - BYE, @SF, CHI, @DAL
Larry Johnson - NYG, DAL, @WAS, SD
Calvin Johnson - @CHI, PIT, @GB, BYE

Well, throwing in the byes, I guess it is hard to score on the bye week, so that is cool. Adrian Peterson against GB and STL could be good games for him, but Baltimore and Pittsburgh might bottle him up, especially if Troy of the big hair is back in Steel-town.

On another note, a friend pointed out that even though I have been trashing Jason Campbell, he did have a nice game last week against Detroit, 300+ and a couple scores. And while I am still not convinced Campbell is worth fantasy consideration for other than a spot start, I have to admit he had a good game. But what the HELL was that against the Rams the week before? UGGHHH! (ok Kris, you got your point across...)

I was reading Matthew Berry again tonight, not sure why, I guess because I like to disagree with him. But here are a few nuggets of wisdom. Read the Talented Mr. Roto here.

Guys to pick up as bye week replacements and more:
Glen Coffee - this one is obvious
Tashard Choice - not worth as much if either Marion Barber or Felix Jones are available (Jones is most likely out)
Jerome Harrison - kinda a stretch
Mike Sims-Walker - He is pushing to be the prime receiver in Jacksonville
Pierre Garcon - from a tiny Division III school, this guy is impressive, snap him up if you can, although the return of Anthony Gonzales will make it interesting.
Keenan Burton - Don't know much about this guy
Kyle Boller - Ok, this is interesting... if you need a bye week replacement, he might be ok
Maurice Morris - If Kevin Smith is indeed out, then Morris could be a shrewd pick up

The Anti-Wire

Yeah, yeah, we are all looking for help or an edge, but here are some guys who ain't gonna help you. There are also others who you can cast off. Bank it!

Quarterbacks:
Chad Henne - Grab a low end real starter, Henne will not achieve fantasy relavence this year.
Seneca Wallace - Matt Hasslebeck he ain't. He might post a decent game with the right matchup, but only if you are desparate
Josh Johnson - I don't know a ton about Johnson, but new QBs on the scene seldom do well right away. Let's give him a couple weeks and see what he shows
Jason Campbell - I have nothing against Campbell, honest, but until they take the training wheels off in Washington, I don't see him being consistent or a fantasy threat except occassionally, might be worth a spot start with the perfect matchup... oh, he had that last week and didn't deliver.

Runningbacks:
Brian Leonard - Unless Cedric Benson gets hurt, don't let his heroics at the end of the Pittsburgh game fool you, Leonard is a bit player at best.
Michael Bennett - He is older than LaDainian and not nearly as explosive as Darren Sproles. He might get a few carries when the others need a rest, but he is not worth a roster spot
Jonathon Stewart - unless DeAngelo Williams gets hurt, Stewart is not really worth a spot, unless you are handcuffing him, or stashing incase of injury
Whoever is backing up MJD, 'nough said
Earnest Graham - Don't bother, too much depth in Tampa

Wide Receivers:
Chris Henry - Henry might be ready to be cast off and pick up Andre Caldwell.
Johnny Knox - He might post you a game here and there, but he is not worth a roster spot. Too many targets in Chicago right now
Chansi Stucky - After a nice opening week, he has disappeared. Leave him there.
Mushin Muhammed - Some might have drafted him, hoping he would return to his past, but the past is in the past.
Greg Lewis - He caught that game winner from Favre, but again, as I mentioned yesterday, he is not a prime time player.
Kelley Washington - Posted a nice game on Sunday but he won't be there for you each week.
Joey Galloway - Where the hell is Joey? Kinda like Where's Waldo. Has there been a Joey sighting this year?

TightEnds:
Dante Rosario - He posted a solid game in Dallas last night, but it is not time to annoit him the next coming of Tony Gonzales, lots of other options out there, give him time to prove it.

In honor of Stevie's appearance in the Maxim Home Town Hotties finalists, I am putting her up again. You can get to her Maxim page by clicking the link in the Quick Hitters on the right side bar.

Looking for help on the waiver wire? Here is a little help if you think I make any sense at all...

- Kerry Kolb is worth a pick up at this point after two superb performances in relief of Donovan McNabb. Maybe Philly will drag their feet to get McNabb back on the field with the 3rd year pro playing so well. Even if McNabb returns next week, Kolb is worth at least a hand cuff.
- Andre Caldwell might be emerging as the third WR in Cinncinati as quickly as the lofty expectations for Chris Henry are floppy around on the ground like a fish outta water.
- Pierre Garcon. If Anthony Gonzales doesn't watch out, his job will be gone when he gets back. Garcon looked ready for prime time in the prime time game last night.
- If you are desparate for a QB, Kyle Boller might be worth a peek, but only if you are desparate, and that means more desparate than picking up Jason Campbell.
- Jamaal Charles is not sure if he is the feature back in Kansas City or if Larry Johnson is, and I am not sure that Todd Haley knows. If he is on the wire, pick him up, it might be worth it
- JaMarcus Russell is officially off my fantasy radar screen, what a waste of talent, time and draft status.
- With Kevin Walter back from injury, if he is available on your wire, get him now.
- Greg Lewis is NOT worthe bench slot on your team, even after his moment of glory in catching Brett Favre's winning toss at the end of the fantastic 49'ers / Vikings game Sunday.
- Vernon Davis might be on your wire, but with his being elected a caption and his unrealized skills and sudden production, picking him up as a back up TE is worth a shot.
- Is Glen Coffee available on your waiver wire? He is worth a short term pick up. Speaking of second string RBs, LeSean McCoy of the Eagles might be worth a short term roster spot if you need help.
- Donald Brown is not available in most leagues, but if the Indy back up RB is, snap him up- Steve Breaston is worth a roster spot if you need WR help. He was injured to start the season might have been overlooked in your league.

There were a couple significant injuries this weekend:

- Frank Gore is out for the short term, but he should be back in a few weeks, or sooner.
- Chad Pennington is done for the year after ripping up his shoulder for the third time. Chad Henne, the 2nd round pick two years ago will be the starter in Miami, but I don't see fantasy relavence.
- Marc Bulger and Laurent Robinson were injured in the game against the Packers. While I don't know how severe either injury is at this point, how many folks that picked up Robinson last week are crying in their oatmeal. And whoever had Bulger on their team should be crying anyhow.

Sunday Quick Hits - Week 3

Here are my quick observations, rants, stew and syrup from Sunday's action.

1) Not bad for an old man eh? Farve won the game for the Vikings and in the process picked up 301 yards and a couple scores. Not bad, not bad at all!

2) Congratulation, sincerely, the the Detroit Lions. Chic McGee had a feeling on the Bob & Tom show this week, and he was right. They showed just enough to get the job done.

3) How bad is Cleveland right now? There isn't anyone on the team worth more than a casual glance from a fantasy perspective. From a football sense, it is even worse. The Browns are on the clock...

4) Guess it is a day for the old men. See how Derrick Mason, him of the recently unretired Masons, had 118 and a TD?

5) Jason Campbell surprised me with 340 and 2 TDs, but his still did not win the game.

6) Add Matt Schaub to the must start QB ranks. 300 and 3 TDs is a nice game, his second in a row. Ok, maybe wait another week to see the consistency branding him as a stud, but 7 TDs in two weeks is almost Brees-esque. On a side note, welcome back Kevin Walter.

7) Maurice Jones Drew has a monster game, almost 150 combined yards and 3 TDs. Guess he is living up to his top billing during the draft season.

8) I was almost certain before game time this morning that the Patriots would struggle in their game against Atlanta, but Tom Terrific and Randy Moss had decent games (not outstanding) and beat the Falcons.

9) Speaking of Brees-esque, Drew was not himself. 172 and 0 TDs... yes, you heard it... ZERO. But Pierre Thomas rewarded the patience of his owners with a strong game, 126 and 2 TDs.

10) Aaron Rodgers posts an great game, 267 and 2 passing scores, plus a 38 yards on the ground an 1 TD there. Did you see him juke the lineman on his rushing TD, left him picking up his jock!

11) Nice win for the Bengals. They did just enough to win, but not fantasy stars to speak of, although Benson had a solid game with a score and about 80 conbined yards

12) Are the Buccs really this bad? I know the Giants defense is good this year but honestly, no one on the entire Tampa team posted more than 50 yards in anything, including passing.

13) Nice "get the monkey of my back" games for Ryan Grant, Brandon Jacobs and Matt Forte. All three put in solid performances and it is a good thing since I have all three in the couple leagues I am in.

14) For a guy who supposedly had a bad hammy, DeSean Jackson sure "limped" through a terrific game (149 and a TD), and as long as we are talking about those who were supposedly on the bench, how about Percy Harvin with a 101 kick off return TD plus 51 receiving yards.

15) Is Mark Sanchez completely unflappable? It wasn't a great game from a fantasy perspective, but the kid just keeps winning. Jericho Cotchery posted a strong 108 and a TD though.

16) Kerry Kolb is making a strong statement for playing time in Philly. More worries for McNabb. Now, he not only has to look over his shoulder at Mike Vick, but he is looking at Kolb starting while he is nursing his cracked rib. Kolb put up 300+ and 2 TDs for a second week in a row.

17) Julius Jones surprised me with a strong effort against the Bears defense in a losing cause for Seattle. 136 combined and a TD was unexpected, when I put him on my bench list.

18) What an absolutely aweful performance by JaMarcus Russell. Wonder if he will ever live up to the #1 overall pick status he had three years ago? I don't see it happening. He doesn't work hard enough and is not acurate enough.

19) What has happened to Chris Chambers? I know Vincent Jackson (5 for 120) has supplanted him as the #1 wide out in San Diego, but the guy has all but disapeared entirely. Is he even on the team?

Spin Spit and Injury Round-up

This is a week where some disappointments are going to get on track and some top performers might slow a bit. Take a peek as I spit forth my twisted knowledge and some injury news I have gleaned from across the World Internet! Basically here are guys I would start, with some obvious selections and a couple that may aren't.

Put these guys in the game if you have 'em:
Quarterbacks
- Aaron Rodgers has basically been a disappointment so far, but I would definately start him and expect a good day against the Rams
- I hesitate to put Kurt Warner here, since Indy proved they can be run on and run on well, but the Cards offense is definately pass first and I don't know if Ken Wisenhunt will commit to the run that much.
- I would start Matt Schaub twice if I could, seriously.

Runningbacks
- Ryan Grant should have a nice game this weekend. The Rams have given up solid numbers to Julius Jones and Willis McGahee... Grant should do likewise.
- Matt Forte should should finally get going as well, playing against a Seattle defense that again this year leading the league in injuries, include Lofa Tatupo.
- If Marion Barber does not start, put Felix Jones in your line up. He will shine.

Wide Receivers
- Steve Smith and Mario Manningham could easily reproduce their dual performance from last week against a weak (still sounds odd saying it) Tampa Bay secondary.
- As sure a lock as there can be, Greg Jennings will return to form against in St. Louis this weekend.
- With Percy Harvin on the bench, and the San Francisco defense strong enough and smart enough to slow down AP, Brett Farve is going to have to put the ball in the air some, not tons, but some. The benefactor should be Sidney Rice.

Tight Ends
- I like Chris Cooley against the Lions this week. He seems to be the only receiver of any kind Jason Campbell can regularly fine.
- JerMichael Finley is my sleeper this week that could go off as Rodgers gets more and more comfortable with him

As for these guys, get 'em some pine time!
Quarterbacks:
- Matt Cassel needs more time to prove to me he can stay healthy, work out the timing with his average receiving crew... plus, his offensive line is like a nice swiss cheese at times... lots of holes.
- I would start Tom Brady if I had him, but I wouldn't have high expectations.
- By year's end, Kyle Orton will surprise some people, but not this week against a solid Oakland secondary and pass rush.

Runningbacks:
- Steven Jackson could have a great day or a poor day, depending on which Green Bay defense shows up. I think the Packers will stack the line of scrimage and see if Marc Bulger and his list of no name receivers can beat them.
- Darren McFadden has been a disappointment since coming out of Arkansas two years ago, I wouldn't start him until he starts to improve his consistency (he has been consistantly mediocre so far)

Wide Receivers:
- Dwayne Bowe is not worth a start except as a flex option with moderate expectations
- Laurent Robinson will have a hard time getting off vs the Packer corners, but there is a chance if they are behind and have success in garbage time.
- Ocho Cinco will be slowed quite a bit by the Steeler secondary even without Polamalu.

Tight Ends:
- John Carlson takes a seat, especially if Hasslebeck sits

Injury Round-up: Just the significant ones
LaDainian Tomlinson - Over 30 backs can be productive, but frequently have injury issues, especially backs with the mileage LT has. Make a play for Darren Sproles if he is available in your league.
DeSean Jackson is questionable for the weekend with a bad hammy or something like that, keep him on your bench even if he starts
Wes Welker and Randy Moss are both "iffy" for the weekend, but like normal, most injury crap out of the Hoodie is exactly that... CRAP. I bet at least one plays and probably both.
Percy Harvin is on the shelf, confirmed
Matt Hasslebeck is unlikely to suit up, which is bad news for all other players you might have in Seattle.

Hate / Love

I sorta liked my Hate / Love post last week, so what the hell, I will try it again. Basically, I am reading the pundits online and spinning it. See the experts below and how much bullshit they are trying to sell! Then look and see how much shit of my own I am slinging.

ESPN's Matthew Berry - Love / Hate list

Laurent Robinson - Even though Robinson has been a pleasant surprise early in the year, I don't think he is going to get going against Charles Woodson and Al Harris.

I am onboard with Matt Ryan. I just don't buy what The Hoodie is selling anymore. With Moss and Welker injured and doubtful for the game, the Patriot defense is going to be scrambling, but I don't see them holding down the Falcons. But, I am not with Berry when he puts Brady and Moss in his love list. Moss is listed as doubtful, and Brady has not been sharp.

Beanie Wells has to suplant Tim Hightower before he can "explode" and with two nice performances by Hightower in weeks 1 and 2, I don't see Wells doing more than stealing some carries, especially with his fumbles last week.

While Felix Jones might have a strong game, Tashard Choice will get a few sub carries, but not enough to start him in any leagues.

Ray Rice WILL have a strong game against the hapless Browns.

Chris Johnson will find the going tough against a solid and tough Jets defense. While he is worth starting as a stud, this will not be a strong game for Johnson.

Ok, this is a gut feeling pick, but I think Brandon Marshall will have a good game against Oakland, even if Matthew doesn't think so.

CBS Sportsline's Jamey Eisenberg - Start 'Em and Sit 'Em

This is a nice thought, Trent Edwards to have a strong game against the Saints and why not, they will be behind, and they will be in a shoot out and Edwards has good targets on the outside and the Saints defense is not known for its tenacity. Nice call on this one.

I wouldn't be starting Ben Rothlisberger this week if I had a choice. The Bengal defense has been surprising this year and I think Big Ben will be under pressure very much like Aaron Rodgers was last week. Rothlisberger is stronger in the pocket, but not as elusive as Rodgers... it won't matter.

Fred Jackson is worth starting, but he won't make put up great grounds numbers as the Bills get into a shoot out, the only way Jackson shines is with check downs and screens.

I might start Benson if I had him this week, even against the Steelers. Even the the Packer D is a cheap imitation of the Steel Curtain, the schemes are the same and Benson is really running strong, very impressive.

Frank Gore will get his, either on the ground or in the air. Heck, even Detroit made inroads against the vaunted Purple People Eaters last week, so I see moderate ground success, but Gore is also a threat out of the backfield and I see that happening.

I like the Steve Smith start, no, not that Steve Smith, the other Steve Smith... the New York one.

Devery Henderson is not a sleeper option, but is a sleep option. (just had to add this in here)

As with Berry, Eisenberg is sitting Marshall this week, but I just have this feeling. Start Brandon.

I don't see Kellen Winslow having a strong game against the Giants. I might start him if I had him, but I would set my expectations lower.

My bust that neither mentions is John Carlson against the Bears. The Bears linebacker corp can shut him down, or at least limit him... besides, I am starting JerMichael Finley instead.

Projections... more garbage!

Projections are guesses, plain and simple. But everyone keeps making them, so why the hell shouldn't I? Well, I asked myself that very question as I was getting ready to write, and I couldn't find one good reason why I can't do it. If you look at the "experts", I think I am right about who is going to do well and who is gonna suck about as much as they are. So, after looking through what the others offer, here my thoughts on the subject.

- Look for Matt Schaub to put up good numbers against the suddenly weak Pussycats (Jaquars) defense, say 300 yards and 3 TDs
- Aaron Rodgers will break out finally this week against the Ram defense that surrendered good numbers to Matt Hasslebeck in week one. They did do better again Jason Campbell, but it is Jason Campbell afterall. Rodgers will get his first 300 yard game and multi-TD game of the year.
- The hapless Browns defense might shut down Joe Flacco, but only if they can't stop the run at all (which might happen). I am willing to bet 250+ and 2 TDs for Flacco this weekend.
- Byron Leftwhich will be running for his life, with his slow delivery, against the Giants defense. I don't see him posting much more than 200 yard and maybe a TD late in mop up duty.
- The Jets defense has been very good this year so far, and will continue to be, so don't count on monster numbers out of Chris Johnson. They might be ok, perhaps 100 combined and a TD, but nothing more.
- Matt Forte will get going this week against Seattle, with 100+ combined yards and at least one TD, don't ask me why I think so, it is just a feeling!
- Knowshon Moreno is have a tough going against an improving Raider's defense, featuring a PISSED OFF Richard Seymour tearing things up, 60 yards tops.
- I am praying Brandon Jacobs finally steps up his game, and the Buccs are just the ticket. 100+ and 2 TDs for him this weekend (because he is on my fantasy team too).
- Ok, for another back looking to get on track, look for Ryan Grant to finally have a good day against the Rams. He will catch a few check downs and screens from Rodgers and will rack up 100 yards. I am thinking 120 combined and at least a TD.
- Who is going to slow down Cedric Benson? The Steeler won't. Give him a TD and 80+ against the Steel Curtain.
- Andre Johnson should have another stellar games against the Jags, with 100+, 2 TDs and about 9 balls.
- Stay away from both the Smiths... you know, Steve Smith... no, the other Steve Smith... oh, both of them. Neither will see the end zone or more than 70 yards.
- Devery Henderson will come back to Earth this week, I see maybe 50 yards and not a TD in sight, but Marques Colston will continue to roll, 80+ and a TD for him.
- The Jets found the game plan for stopping Randy Moss, get physical at the line with a safety over the top. I think the Falcons will learn from this lesson and keep Moss out of the end zone and perhaps 80 yards.
- Ocho Cinco will be shut down by the Steelers as the harrass Carson Palmer all day. The artist formerly known as Chad Johnson will only get 60 yards and no TDs.
- Brent Celek might be the real deal, but can Kerry Kolb get him the ball? I think so, especially with DeSean Jackson on the shelf. 75+ and a TD this week.
- JerMichael Finley is going to like the turf in St. Louis and should get 60+ and a TD this week as Coach McCarthy finds ways to get him the ball.
- Visanthe Shiancone will continue to disappoint, finding only a few grabs and 30 yards maybe.
Now, I don't know if any of this crap will come true, neither does anyone else (except for the last one). Just educated guesses. Flip a coin eh?

Jumping before you look - Back to the Future..

Last week I talked about "Post Week One Over-reactions. Owners all over the fantasy world will behave like school girls, panicking, dropping quality players in order to pick up week one wonders. I thought I would see how big a moron I was with my statements...

Last week: Mark Sanchez is NOT a top ten fantasy quarterback. With all due respect to Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco and their great success last year, neither was a top ten last year. They might be this year. Don't go out and trade a quality guy like Matt Schaub
Analysis: I am still correct. Sanchez might be a good guy to have a on dynasty team, but even in a keeper league, he is not a target keeper...best he would be is a tier 2 QB next year, not a guy you would keep.

Last week: The Houston Texans collective offensive unit is NOT a bust. Matt Schaub is will throw for more than 166 yards. Andre Johnson will lead the Texans in receiving yards and TDs. Steve Slaton will get more than 17 yards next week. Owen Daniels is not a worthless TE. Sure, the entire Texan offense had a crappy day on the field. But stay the course and reap the rewards.
Analysis: Pretty much dead on here except for the defense, having second thoughs about it. And other than Steve Slaton, the rest of the Houston mob did just fine.

Last week: Matt Forte is NOT a tier 2 or even tier 3 running back. Case in point, he did not catch a pass in the game vs Green Bay on Sunday night, but Jay Culter did throw 4 picks. You think the coaching staff will work with Culter and let him know that Forte is a nice check down, or that Greg Olson can catch the ball? If Earl Bennett leads the Bears in receptions more than twice more this year, I will be hugely surprised.
Analysis: Granted, Forte is still struggling, but The Pitt defense had a lot to do with it. He did have better numbers and was much more involved in the passing game. Look for Forte to bust out in week three! He is STILL a tier 1 back.

Last week: Jake Delhomme is NOT done. Although I think I am half nuts for even thinking it, Jake has had a couple bad games (bad games? more like nightmares), but if he gets his head straight, he can still be a quality secondary fantasy QB, so don't give up the boat quite yet, hang on to him another week or two and see what happens.
Analysis: Jake bounced back with a nice game, nothing to write home about, but not a bad game... see, he is not dead.

Last week: Jay Culter will NOT throw 64 INTs this year. The Packer defense is tough this year and Culter is new to the offense and his receivers, which contributed to his demise, but don't give up the ghost. Better numbers will come.
Analysis: Cutler had a solid game against the Steelers and pulled out a win in the end, if not a stellar fantasy game. Look Mom, no INTs!

Last week: Ben Rothlisberger will NOT throw for 350 yards each game. Pittsburgh has been a run-first team for ages and will continue trying to be. I am not convinced that run first will work for this team, and perhaps Big Ben throwing the ball all over to a quality receiving corp is not a bad idea, but don't bank on it. Rothlisberger is a quality fantasy QB, but far from elite.
Analysis: Big Ben still had a solid, if not spectacular day, and the running game showed up against the Bears, at lease somewhat.

Last week: Devery Henderson is NOT the next coming of Larry Fitzgerald. Even with the unbelievable Drew Brees tossing the rock, Marques Colston will emerge as the favored target, and others like Lance Moore and Robert Meachem will get theirs too. So don't go trading Chad Ocho Cinco Johnson for Mr. Henderson.
Analysis: Ok, Henderson had a nice game this week as well, but in the end, if he is a top 40 WR by year's end, I will kiss my own ass, and that won't be a pretty site!

Last week: Brandon Stokely will NOT catch a miraculous 87 yard TD pass again in his lifetime. Stokely will return to his 3 catches and 23 yards starting next week.
Analysis: Stokely is turning into a nice scatter / possession receiver for the Broncos, but fantasy stardom is still not in his future, maybe a few nice games... but not a star.

Tuesday Ramblings

Quite a week 2 this past weekend. Here are my random ramblings, whether you want to hear them or not...

The big injury of the weekend has to be to Matt Hasslebeck. A couple cracked ribs in the rumor, doubtful for the weekend. Anyone wanna pick up Seneca Wallace? Though so... The Seahawks are going to struggle with Hasslebeck quiding the ship, so expect drop offs in the numbers for TJ, Nate and company. The only one who might benefit is Juluis Jones, but everyone knows they are gonna try and run the ball more, so I don't give him any up tick facing stacked fronts.

We all saw Marion Barber pull up awckardly on that run late in the 4th quarter of Sunday night's contest with the Giants. Word is he has a "left thigh injury" No Kiddin'! I wouldn't count on him to see much action on Sunday, and start Felix Jone if you have him.

The Rams just keep getting better as Jason Smith, their top pick and starting left tackle is down with a sprained knee, not that it makes much difference.

Troy Williamson is probably done for the season, which explains why Mikes Sims-Walker surprised us all over the weekend. Who the hell is he again?

Tough break for promising Falcons defensive tackle Peria Jerry. He is out for the season after injurying his left knee. The Falcon defense looked good in week one, enough that many picked them up, but they fell back to reality week two, perhaps this injury is a factor?

Ok, time to jump on the V-Jax band wagon. Two strong games as Phillip River's primary target (outside of Darren Sproles) have me convinced. If you can pull a decent trade for the Vincent Jackson, make the deal.

Will the REAL "Other" Steve Smith stand up? Is the other Steve Smith out of New York, or does he reside in Carolina? All puns aside, Steve Smith, NY Giants version is establishing himself as the lead option for Eli. And Mario Manningham might be a nice #2, but that bears watching.

We are heading into Week 3... anyone need any more evidence that Brett Favre is NOT a reliable fantasy quarterback... and through no fault of his own. He posted a strong game against the Lions, but not in a fantasy sense, even if his 2 TDs were nice. He is not a starter, even in bye weeks. The plan is simple in the Cities... AP, AP and more AP.

Watch Mike Bell closely... but watch Pierre Thomas closer. If the knee does not get better soon, Thomas might find the bench a familiar place...and if that happens, having Mike Bell will be a boondoggle!

Johnny Knox is NOT worth picking up. Fluke, purely a fluke. Hester, Bennett, Olson and Forte will still get the majority of the balls, trust me.

Is Pittsburgh truly turning to the dark side? Can it be? Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall each logged about 50 yards, nothing to write home about, but Rothlisberger, Ward and Holmes put up nice fantasy numbers, if not spectacular. Dare we say the vaunted aerial attack of the... Pittsburgh Steelers?

Is Tom Brady in trouble? A round 2 pick in most leagues... minimum, Brady shuffled along like a school girl from a fantasy perspective in week two. Is he still a tier 1 QB?
Matt Ryan is emerging. Mark this down, he will be a top 10 fantasy QB this season and better after that. Book it!

The entire San Francisco offense is completely dead to me... except Frank Gore. The rest of the team I am casting into the sewage heap, end of story.

Fantasy Clicks on SI.com made a good point about picking up most of the Denver Offensive players now, while they are down. Once Orton and company get comfortable, the offense could go off.

What is going to happen in Buffalo when Marshawn Lynch returns after week 3? Can they possibly bench Fred Jackson? Can you say RBBC? My bet is Lynch is still primary but Jackson will out perform him in most weeks with less carries, but will get more receptions.

Pick up Lines and Injury Round up!

Might be a few gems still out there on the waiver wire. Take a peek.

Mark Sanchez - He might still be available in your league... if you have a keeper or dynasty league, this is a must pick up, but even in annual leagues, his performance is only going to improve... he is at least as impressive as Flacco and Ryan were last year!

Earl Bennett - Bennett was probably snapped up in most leagues and really came back to Earth
with 2 for 22 on Sunday, but he is still worth a pick up if available.

Devery Henderson - Henderson showed some staying power, much to my surprise, posting another decent game in a row for the Saints, while probably not available, pick him up if he is.

Mike Bell - No one knows how bad Pierre Thomases' knee is, and Reggie Bush is a nice factor back, but not a feature back, keep Bell if you picked him up, get him if he is out there.

Laurent Robinson - While the Rams continue to struggle, Robinson is worth a look, if he is available on your league, he posted a strong game on Sunday and I am not sold on Avery as a #1 wide out.

Kerry Kolb - Ok, eating more crow... Kolb surprised me, a really good performance, even if it lacked TDs

Bobby Wade - He didn't make much noise since his sudden release in Minnesota, but Kansas City picked him up and he posted a nice game, with 6 grabs for 72 yards.

Chansi Stuckey - I mentioned him last week and while he had a pedestrian 4 for 37, he was targeted 7 times in the game, not too bad.

Mario Manningham - 13 targets, 10 catches, 150 yards and a TD. Pick him up just for the potential. With the perceived disarray of the Giant receiving crew, the OTHER Steve Smith and now Manningham are stepping up.

JerMichael Finley - Keep your eye on Finley. 4 receptions, 56 yards and 7 targets, he will be starting soon in Green Bay.

Sunday Quick Hits

Here are my quick observations, rants, stew and syrup from Sunday's action.

1) I was eating crow last week, but this week I was closer to the mark. Jeremy Shockey has a pedestrian 4 for 49 this week, which is more what I have been expecting. He might post a nice game here and there, but overall, he is middle of the road.

2) The Drew Brees machine continues to churn. Another impressive stat line ith 300+ and 3 TDs

3) The star of the day goes to Chris Johnson, who has a MONSTER day. 192 rushing yards, 9-87 receiving and 3 total TDs. That is the definition of seizing the day!

4) Kudos to Frank Gore, 200+ and a couple TDs to boot, nice day again what I thought was a decent Seattle defense, guess not.

5) I had predicted a light day for Vincent Jackson against the vaunted Ravens D, but he pulled out 141 yards and a TD on 6 catches.

6) Another slow day for Larry Fitzgerald. While Kurt Warner was tossing the ball around, Fitzgerald only tallied 4-34 and a short TD was all the bailed him out.

7) Can you believe the Jets Defense? Tying down the Patriots all day and keeping them out of the end zone. Impressive.

8) Who the hell are Mike Sims-Walker and Julian Edelman and what are they doing invading the top 15 wide outs for week 2?

9) Matt Schaub made a nice recovery and moves back into that tier 2 of quarterbacks by carving up Tennessee for 350+ and 4 TDs

10) Jason Campbell had a hard time directing the Redskin offense into the end zone again the lowly Ram defense. 242 and 0 TDs just does not cut it.

11) Cedric Benson surpassed expectations again (ok, how many of us benched him this week?) posting very good numbers against the Pack defense, no TDs but 141 rushing yards is nice fantasy points.

12) Who could have imaged how dynamic Darren Sproles would be this early in the year. Isn't this LaDainian's comeback year?

13) Are any of the other Matt Forte owners panicking?

14) The Jake Delhomme watch is off. 300+ with a Td, and best yet, only 1 INT... a good day for Jake.

15) I am tired of eating so much crow, but both Owen Daniels AND Kellen Winslow eat me up. Guess I have to stop predicting TEs causing John Carlson was average.

16) The Browns look horrible... looks like another top 5 pick coming their way again next year.

17) Stunning win for the Bears over the Steelers. Tight game, won it on grit.

18) Wow did the Jones brothers come back to Earth, Julius stunk it up against the 49'ers and Thomas has a poor game against the Patriots.

19) Nice start to the game for Eli Manning, 149 and a TD in a half of work against a good Dallas defense.

Spin Spit - Week Two

I spit forth my thoughts last week and will do so again. This is NOT a comprehensive list of all the players you should start, but instead just a few that I like. Now, Pay attention!

In the Game
Quarterbacks:
Ben Rothlisberger - The Bear defense is injured and the secondary is suspect. If Big Ben can carve up the Titans, he should be able to do nearly as well against Da Bearz.
Matt Ryan - The Panthers seem a team in decline, fast decline, both offensively and defensively, while the Falcons are headed in the other, better direction, including Ryan
Aaron Rodgers - Rodgers will go off against the Bengals, take last week, he was a couple drops and a couple yards from a have a huge game against the Bears

Runningbacks:
Matt Forte - Most owners are looking to sit Forte this week, yet the loss of Polamalu hurts the Pittsburgh defense and they will not be nearly as flexible, and while Forte might not knock it out of the park, a 100 combined yards with a TD is reasonable.
Leon Washington - Washington will create match up issues for the Patriot linebacks, if Sanchez can get him the ball, 100 combined yards and a TD is likely here as well
Chris Johnson - The Texan defense was steady, but did allow Thomas Jones over 100 yards, and Johnson is a more dynamic back.
Brandon Jacobs - This is a feeling pick, but I think Jacobs is going to do well against the Boys

Wide Receivers:
Larry Fitzgerald - Without a late TD, his day last week would have been a bomb, this week is all good.
Marques Colston - He got lost in the fray and the party against the Lions, but Drew will find him often against the Eagles
Santonio Holmes - I have never been impressed with Holmes, but his growing consistency is winning me over.
Wes Welker - if you have him in a PPR league, start him!

Tight Ends:
John Carlson - He made a believer out of me, and I am not sure Matt Hasslebeck will stop throwing his way or that the 49'er defense can stop it.
Chris Cooley - I am not a Jason Campbell fan, but I see just enough balls coming to Cooley to make his day good

On the Bench
Quarterbacks:
Mark Sanchez - The Hoodie will have some surprises for the rookie, and even though he looked very good in the opener, the Patriot defense will confuse and pester him all day.
Tom Brady - The Jet defense is going to bring the house and a lot of creative looks. Brady is too good to put down entirely, but he won't have an exceptional game
Eagles QBs - If Donovan starts, he won't finish the game, and Kolb is basically a rookie. Neither will point well from a fantasy perspective, especially if time is split

Runningbacks:
Ray Rice - The Charge defense is strong, and will key on Rice.
Tim Hightower - Anyone who is betting on a repeat of his 12 catch, 100+ yards last week is either stupid or an idiot or both
Frank Gore - The Seahawk defense looked good last week, I know it was the Rams, but a shut out is a shut out after all
Thomas Jones - Where Leon Washington has the right match up, a traditional back like Jones will not see great success against the Pats.

Wide Receivers:
Donnie Avery - The Skins will shut down the main threat for the Rams.
Vincent Jackson - It is the Ravens after all, and Jackson is still not quite ready for prime time
Reggie Wayne - Somehow, I don't feel the Colt offense, it is not as explosive, it lacks a marque runner, which hurts the passing game, and while I wouldn't sit Wayne, I dont see 100+ yards this weekend
Devin Hester - He was here last week too and he made a fool of me, if he does it against the Steelers, I will put him permanently on the MUST start list.

Tight Ends:
Dustin Keller - I see the Patriots shutting this option down against the young Sanchez, taking away one safety value
Kellen Winslow - I sit him until he proves me otherwise. He is out of Cleveland because he lost his explosiveness, and without that, he is just another TE.

Hate / Love

Like many of us Football Nutballs out there, I watch ESPN until I start to drool. And while I like most of what Bristol (or should I say Hollywood) puts out, one thing I have not gotten to like is Matthew Berry. Sure, his segments are fine and all, but I can't say I agree with much if any of his conclusions. I have much more respect for his ESPN fantasy colleague, and I forget his name haha! So, every week, "The Talented Mr Roto" posts his Love/Column, so, I am going to call mine Hate/Love. I don't hate everything Berry puts out, but some things are ludacris, and I don't mean the singer. Along with this, I will add in some rants on the other Start and Sit columns out there.

ESPN's Matthew Berry - Love / Hate list

Kevin Smith - Not only is this crazy, it is stupid. Right up there with Peter King picking the Lions to beat the Vikings this weekend. I have great respect for Mr King and his writing, and don't always agree with him, but putting Smith in the top 20 RB starters this weekend is... well... silly.

Matt Schaub - he lumped him in with Owen Daniels, and honestly who cares. Schaub is up against a tough Titans defense, and yes, Big Ben pegged them 300+, he only had one TD. Jeff Fisher fixes what's broke and bottles up the Texans

Percy Harvin - Harvin has a nice game, but not spectacular, take away the TD and it was pedastrian. My feeling is Harvin will have an up and down season. Besides, Petersen, Rice and Berrian are all going off, not enough balls to go around.

Kevin Faulk - I don't see a Hightower-esque game here, even though Berry pointed out how many targets Faulk had. The Jets shut down Steve Slaton and will shut down Faulk too/

Jason Campbell - He is a marginal NFL QB, not his fault entirely. Plus, The weak Ram defense,
which gave up mad stats to Julius Jones, will give up even more to Portis, no need for the Skins to toss it all over. 200 yards and maybe a TD here.

Randy Moss - Berry has 7 others ahead of him this week. I don't buy it. Moss is good for 120 and a TD this week.

CBS Sportsline's Jamey Eisenberg - Start 'Em and Sit 'Em

Trent Edwards is NOT a must start fantasy QB... even with good receiving options and a no huddle offense, he has to prove it to me first.

Jason Campbell again, is not a good fantasy QB option

LenDale White is lossing more and more ground to Chris Johnson, who is clearly the feature back. White might steal a TD here and there, but nothing more.

Larry Johnson was on the sit list for Mr Roto, but I am with Eisenberg on this one, Johnson is more likely to do better than worse.

Braylon Edwards needs to show up before I would put him on a start list... and Denver still has talent at CB in Champ Bailey. Edwards will not take flight in week 2.

DeSean Jackson is in a track meet this weekend with the Saints, and even with McNabb on the shelf, he will get his because he will have to.

Benjamin Watson is not a consistant fantasy TE, and should hit the skids are predicted here.
I will add more to this column next week.
